Baton Rouge: Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending June 8, 2013, increased to 3,755 from the previous week's total of 3,306. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending June 9, 2012, figure of 4,272.
The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 3,296 from the previous week’s average of 2,939. Initial claims typically increase in Louisiana this time of year, as can be seen in the attached charts which include the past two years of claims history.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending June 8, 2013, increased to 23,629 from the previous week’s total of 22,647. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending June 9, 2012, figure of 33,841.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 22,265 from the previous week’s average of 21,987.
