Baton Rouge: Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Jan. 5, 2013, increased to 3,253 from the previous week's total of 2,505. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending Jan. 7, 2012, figure of 4,372.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 3,196 from the previous week’s average of 3,262.
Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Jan. 5, 2013, increased to 32,001 from the previous week’s total of 31,009. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Jan. 7, 2012, figure of 44,904.
The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 31,494 from the previous week’s average of 31,315.
The total number of people who filed a claim for regular unemployment insurance in Louisiana, and received at least one check during the reference month, increased to 28,174 in December 2012, up 1,600 from 26,574 in November 2012.
