Baton Rouge: Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending December 1, 2012, increased to 4,048 from the previous week's total of 2,705, an annual spike Louisiana has seen for the past two years.

Increases also occurred in accommodation and food services, retail trade, and administrative and waste services. However, initial claims were below the comparable week ending Dec. 3, 2011, figure of 4,789.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 3,179 from the previous week’s average of 2,818.
