Unemployment Insurance Claims Report: September 24, 2012

Baton Rouge:  Initial unemployment insurance claims for the week ending Sept. 15 decreased to 4,873 from the previous week's total of 9,023. However, the number of initial claims remained well above pre-Hurricane Isaac levels, with much of the increase attributable to the hurricane.

Initial claims for the week ending Sept. 15 were also above the comparable week in 2011, when 3,567 initial claims were filed.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 4,799 from the previous week’s average of 4,290.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending Sept. 15, 2012, increased to 33,459 from the previous week’s total of 31,895. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending Sept. 17, 2011, figure of 44,259.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed decreased to 32,655 from the previous week’s average of 32,906.
