Unemployment Insurance Claims Report: June 22, 2012

Baton Rouge: Initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ending June 16, 2012, decreased to 3,806 from the previous week's total of 4,272. The largest over-the-week decrease in initial claims was in the health care and social assistance industry. Initial claims were below the comparable week ending June 18, 2011, figure of 4,166.

 The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 4,135 from the previous week’s average of 4,070.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for the week ending June 16, 2012, increased to 34,698 from the previous week’s total of 33,841. The largest over-the-week increase in continued claims was in the health care and social assistance industry. Continued weeks claimed were below the comparable week ending June 18, 2011, figure of 47,151.

The four-week moving average of continued weeks claimed increased to 33,257 from the previous week’s average of 32,573.
